  • Music - music composed for the production

  • Contrapuntal sound - sound does not sync up with what is happening on screen. e.g. happy music playing in a horror film

  • Parallel sound - sound is appropriate and matches up with what is seen on screen. Matches the tone of the scene.

  • Diegetic sound - sound characters can hear in a scene. e.g a radio playing. Can be in or out of shot, as long as it can be 'heard'.

  • Non-diegetic sound - sound characters cant hear, added afterwards. e.g a voice-over or eerie music.

  • Off/on screen - whether the origin of the sound can be seen on screen or not

  • Voice over - a narrator or character's thoughts outside of diegesis give the audience information.

  • Emotion - tone of delivery, exaggeration, how emotion is portrayed in the scene.

  • Dialogue - speech from characters. consider language, tone, accent and volume.
